The Adventures in Mrs. Ripp's Room

A Conversation about Hans Christian Andersen

Today we welcomed Nete Schmidt, my mother who happens to be a professor at the UW.  She teaches a class on Hans Christian Andersen so she agreed to come out here and speak to us about him.  I was so impressed with the students, many had prepared questions for her such as “where did he find his inspiration,” “why did he start to write,” and many more questions came up during the conversation.  The kids were a wonderful audience, as Prof. Schmidt commented, she was so impressed with how respectful and attentive they were.

I am once again proud of these kids and the maturity, interest, and respect they show our guest speakers.  This was wonderful opportunity for them to learn more about the man behind the fairy tales and they really grabbed the chance.  We hope to bring another guest speaker in to discuss astronomy with us in the coming weeks either in person or via Skype.
